Ami is a 28-year-old engineer with a passion for sailing! As a new crew member on Maiden she has taken a decisive step towards her dream of developing this into a career.
Ami has been sailing weekly for over 10 years, in various dinghies competitively and also completed the sailing training with the Clipper Race Team with a view to completing a leg in a future race. Ami is a very positive person with a strong work ethic. Her engineering background and teamwork will be invaluable on board Maiden along with sailing in her favourite position, on the foredeck.
This year the Christmas holidays were a little different; no need for thermals on the obligatory family walk, nor a roaring fire to defrost in front of, just shorts, t-shirts, and sunglasses.
Being a predominantly Muslim country, you would have thought Christmas would be cancelled – how wrong you would be. Christmas in Dubai is the most active I’ve ever known! You can do anything from sky diving to dune buggy driving, everything is available. The dune buggy driving at sunrise was one of the highlights for me. The golden grain of the sand awakening for a new day is mesmerising.
Christmas Day was spent at the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, where we were extremely well looked after with a huge spread of food catering for all different nationalities. As always, DOSC was the place to be. With their ever-helpful staff and friendly members you can’t help but feel welcomed into their family.
Unfortunately, the holidays were cut short due to COVID, but we were still able to enjoy the new years fireworks from our windows. There were 3 displays visible and they were all spectacular!
